As is fitting in such occasions, Chris Gayle led the way with a quickfire fifty as the Jamaica Tallawahs took the Caribbean Premier League title.
But it was a display marred by the dismal showing put up by the Guyana Amazon ‘Warriors’, who scarcely lived up to their name as they collapsed to 93 all out in 16 overs.
Almost half those runs came from Sohail Tanvir (42) and only two other batsmen reached double figures and Extras (8) was the fourth-highest score.
They were unable to cope with the left-arm spin of either Imad Wasim, who took 3-21, or Shakib al Hasan (2-25), augmented by the pace of Kesrick Williams (2-12 off two).
The pressure was off, and Gayle expressed himself by hammering six sixes and three fours off the 27 balls he faced in an opening stand of 79 in 10 overs with Chadwick Walton. That was it. Game over by nine wickets and seven overs to spare.
