Australian speedster Peter Siddle has made it very clear who he is targeting next as he looks to get back to full fitness.
The Australian fast bowler, who has been recovering from an injury, has stated that he is working hard to get back to full fitness. His aim is to be ready in time for Australia’s Domestic one-day tournament, the Matador Cup, which will act as sufficient preparation for the test series against South Africa, which starts on November 3, 2016.
When asked whether the series against Australia would be his comeback, he replied: ‘That’s the plan. I’ve started back bowling and the body’s feeling good so it’s just a matter of getting it all right and preparing before then.’
He also mentioned that he hopes rehab and good rest will help him gain back his pace, saying:
‘Once they sat down and worked out how much I’d bowled – about a thousand more overs than anyone else in Australia in the last couple of years – it showed that I’d bowled a lot more so I was putting my body under a lot of pressure and it was taking its toll.
‘So I had dropped off (the pace) a bit and I think this freshen up has been great.’
The right-arm fast-medium bowler made it quite clear that he has high hopes for a full recovery, saying: ‘I know that when I’m at my best I’m one of the best bowlers in the country and that’s the good thing about this time (off) – it’s given me time to freshen up and get the body right.’
Siddle has taken 43 wickets in 12 matches against the Proteas, with an average of 33,62 and one five-wicket haul to his name.
