Veteran Saffa Colin Ingram produced a great all-round performance to help Glamorgan into the quarterfinals of the Natwest T20 Blast with a win over Somerset in Cardiff.
He followed his career-best bowling of 3-20, restricting Somerset to 152, with an innings of 54, which broke the back of the chase. Glamorgan go through with two games still to play.
The Warriors captain, who signed a three-year Kolpak contract in 2014, has played as a white-ball specialist this season as a result of a knee injury and he has made the most of his chance, leading the run-scoring charts for Glamorgan in T20 and 50-over cricket.
At 63-2 after eight overs, Ingram was joined by Aneurin Donald, who registered the fastest ever first-class double hundred against Derbyshire this past week. They put together a stand of 76 from 53 balls when Ingram fell, having hammered five fours and two sixes off 37 balls, and Jacques Rudolph (8) had to tie up the loose ends.
Alviro Petersen made a solid contribution of 42 off 36 (4×4) to Lancashire’s 176-3 against Durham. It proved just enough, despite an unbroken stand of 48 in 3.5 overs between Paul Coughlin and Keaton Jennings (21 off 13). Coughlin needed a six off the last ball, which fell 10m short
Ryan McLaren had a frustrating day as Middlesex beat Hampshire by 43 runs. He took 2-35 in Middlesex’s innings of 181, and contributed 23 off 15 at No 7 with the bat: the second-highest scorer after Sean Irvine’s 36 as Hampshire fell to 138. Ryan Higgins, born in Harare and raised in Berkshire, took 5-13 with his offspin.
It was equally so for Kagiso Rabada as Essex hammered Kent by 33 runs. Essex ran up 190-2, but Rabada emerged with dignity, conceding just 28 runs in his four overs, with 14 dot balls. The others weren’t so conservative.
It was altogether more cheerful for Surrey’s Man of the Match all-rounder Chris Morris, who took two valuable wickets for 21, restricting Sussex to 153. He then completed the six-wicket win by smashing a six over midwicket, ending on 20 off 16 balls.
Imran Tahir came in for a bit of punishment (0-36) when Warwickshire piled up 172-2, but Notts struck back for a six-wicket win, with Riki Wessels adding 37 off 28 balls.
