AB de Villiers shared a 68-run partnership in six overs with Nicholas Pooran to set the Barbados Tridents on their way to victory in the CPL.
They beat the St Lucia Zouks by 25 runs after the bowlers, led by Wayne Parnell’s 2-27 and Robin Petersen (1-23), strangled the batting line-up, holding them to just 148-8 while chasing 173.
De Villiers was on five when joined by Pooran, with the score on 51-2 after 8.4 overs. They ran neck and neck until De Villiers fell to a slower ball from Jerome Taylor, having scored 32 off 22 (3×4, 1×6) and lifting the total to 119 in the 16th over.
Pooran went on to 81 off 39, with nine fours and four sixes to underpin the innings. Out of all that, Morne Morkel did well to give away just 25 runs in his four overs, applying a tight grip at the start, when his first three went for 12.
In reply, the Zouks were never allowed to build momentum. David Miller contributed 11 off 12 balls (1×6).
