Dale Steyn took two wickets for five runs as the Jamaica Tallawahs hammered Faf du Plessis’ Patriots by 108 runs in the CPL.
He was part of a triumvirate of quicks who sliced through the Patriots line-up as they chased 184 to win. Alongside him were Andre Russell, who picked up 2-11, including Du Plessis for 12, and the star of the show, Kesrick Williams, who took his three wickets in one over, reducing the Patriots from 53-2 to 53-5 and effectively ending the contest. They were all out for 75. Steyn cleaned up the lower order at an economy rate of 1.3.
The previous day he took 2-31 off four overs to help the Tallawahs beat the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
Earlier, Kumar Sangakkara (65 off 47) and Rovman Powell (34 off 17) stepped up for the Tallawahs after Chris Gayle (1) and Chadwick Walton (12) had been dismissed with 20 on the board. Shakib al Hasan (34* off 17) applied the finishing touches. Tabraiz Shamsi was one of those to suffer from the onslaught, but nevertheless went for just 30 in his four overs.
In the second match, AB de Villiers scored a breezy 45 off 32 as the Barbados Tridents piled up 172-4, but it proved nowhere near enough as the Trinbago Knight Riders passed the target in 17.4 overs.
Hashim Amla was positively muted, scoring 31 off 34, with just one four, but he anchored a whirlwind partnership of 107 in 10 overs with Colin Munro, who went on to 68 off 39 (2×4, 6×6).
In the face of that, Robin Peterson did well to give away just 23 in 3.4 overs, but Wayne Parnell went for 41 while dismissing Amla and William Perkins (23)
