The Rising Pune Supergiants beat the Delhi Daredevils by 19 runs on the D/L method after their match was called off after two rain interruptions.
The Supergiants, who were chasing a modest 122 for victory, were well-poised at 57-1 after 8.2 overs when the rain started falling in Visakhapatnam, with Ajinkya Rahane on 26 from 25 balls and George Bailey on 6 from 13. Usman Khawaja lost his wicket in the fourth over having scored 19 from 13 balls with four fours.
Play resumed after 55 minutes, but there were only 16 balls bowled before the rain started falling again and the covers were brought back on. The match was called off 15 minutes later.
Earlier, Chris Morris and Karun Nair were the only batsmen to show some resistance as the Supergiants’ bowling attack ripped through the Delhi batting lineup. Nair made his way to the middle at the beginning of the third over after Quinton de Kock (2) was out lbw off Ashok Dinda.
Nair kept the scoreboard ticking over, as the Daredevils lost three more wickets, steadily making his way to 41 from 43 balls, hitting five fours, before he too was out leg-before in the 15th over off Adam Zampa with the score on 70-5.
The South African pair of JP Duminy and Morris then came together and looked to propel Delhi to a defendable total, but Duminy only managed 14 from 13 balls before he was caught by Irfan Pathan at short fine leg off Dinda. Morris then kicked on and ended the innings unbeaten on 38 from just 20 balls having smashed four fours and two sixes as the Delhi Daredevils ended on 121-6 from their 20 overs.
