The Proteas women lost their opening game of the World T20 against Australia’s women by six wickets on Friday.
Opting to bat first, South Africa could only manage a meagre 102-6 in their 20 overs despite a 72-run opening partnership between Dane van Niekerk (45) and Trisha Chetty (34) in 12.5 overs.
Incredibly, South Africa only managed 30 runs in the next seven overs with captain Mignon du Preez (12 off 18) the only batsman to get into double figures.
Australia were in deep trouble on 9-3, but recovered thanks to an unbeaten 42 by Alex Blackwell and 30 not out from 19 deliveries by Meg Lanning as Australia reached 105-4 with nine balls to spare.
