• Steyn ready to test his fitness

Dale Steyn will make his comeback from a shoulder injury in a club game for Western Province Cricket Club on Saturday.

Steyn will play the first day of a two-day fixture against St Augustine in order to determine his readiness for next month’s three T20s against Australia and the World T20.

The fast bowler has endured an injury ridden season so far. He missed six of South Africa’s eight summer Tests, starting with a groin injury in India and then the shoulder injury during his comeback in Durban in the first Test.

Steyn bowled in the nets last week and, according to Faf du Plessis, he looks fit again.

‘Dale will be in the mix in the games against Australia,’ Du Plessis said. ‘He has been given some extra time to get back. He looks like he’s bowling fully again, but after such a long lay-off you don’t want to throw a guy straight into a competitive match, that is why he wasn’t considered for England.

‘We are expecting him to be 100% fit for Australia.’

The club match will give the team management a good indication of whether Steyn has fully recovered.
