• Phangiso in trouble again

Cricket South Africa have reminded Aaron Phangiso of his responsibilities as a national cricketer after he pretended to snort something on television during the second T20 against England on Sunday.

Phangiso was seen performing the impression while sitting in the dugout during England’s second T20 International against South Africa on Sunday afternoon.

After being caught out by the television cameras, Phangiso apologised: ‘I was sharing a light and humorous moment with my team-mates, but in hindsight I realise it was a silly and irresponsible thing to do.

‘I would like to apologise for my actions and to all those who I may have offended.’

Phangiso, 32, who was one of the non-playing substitutes, can clearly be seen ‘sniffing’ an imaginary substance and then leaning back in satisfaction.

‘We understand that Aaron was sharing in a light hearted moment with his team-mates, but his action on television was inappropriate in the light of the drug problem that we are challenged with in South Africa,’ CSA CEO Haroon Lorgat said.

‘We have asked team management to highlight the responsibility all players have in being positive and inspirational role models to the youth of this country.’

Phangiso was sanctioned by CSA in January after he was thrown off a flight for being intoxicated.

The spinner was travelling back to South Africa from India, via Dubai, on October 26 last year, where he had played in the ODI series, when the incident happened.

He is said to have offended passengers and flight attendants with his behaviour.

When the touring party arrived in Dubai, the Emirates Airline personnel refused to allow Phangiso on the next flight to Johannesburg, insisting he take a later flight to sober up.
