Chris Morris has described his match-winning knock in the fourth ODI against England as one of the highlights of his career.

Morris smashed 62 from 38 balls at the Wanderers on Friday night to take South Africa to the brink of a one-wicket victory, which levelled the series with the decider to be played at Newlands onSunday.

Needing 37 runs from 36 balls to two wickets in hand, Morris completely changed the game with a big over off Stuart Broad’s bowling.

‘It was one of the most memorable days of my cricketing career,’ Morris said.

‘I keep saying that I’m always happy that I can contribute. To win a game for your country, it doesn’t matter what format; be it chess, darts or whatever, to win a game for your country is a special feeling. But in saying that, I’m glad I got some runs under the belt; it was nice to hit some out of the park. I’m happy with our performance and happy with the win.’

Morris was brought back into the team for Friday’s game in the place of Morne Morkel as he continues to compete with David Wiese for the all-rounder spot in the team. While Wiese is a more recognised batsman, Morris moved from the Lions to the Titans last year where he has put in a lot of work on his batting.

He was sold for just over a million dollars at the recent IPL auction and now looks certain to keep his place in the side.

‘I’ve put in a lot of hard work on my batting in the last couple of months,’ he said. ‘Since I moved to the Titans I have done a lot of work on my batting where there is a lot of belief pumped into you as a player, especially from the coach Rob Walter. He believes in you as a player and pushes you 100%.

‘The amount of effort Russell [Domingo] and the coaches put in has been great. Our guys have thrown a million balls to me and in the end it has to pay off.’
