AB de Villiers will become the sixth South African to play in 200 ODIs when the Proteas take on England at Newlands on Sunday.
De Villiers is also the fourth South African to play in 200 ODIs and 100 Test matches.

Three memorable ODI innings by AB de Villiers:
146 (130 balls) against West Indies at the 2007 World Cup
It was De Villiers’ maiden ODI century which, incredibly, took him 37 innings to achieve. It was back in the days when De Villiers opened the batting with Graeme Smith and his innings here helped South Africa get 356-4 in their 50 overs batting first. He scored 12 fours and five sixes as the Proteas beat West Indies by 67 runs to get their campaign back on track following an embarrassing defeat to Bangladesh.

One of the most unforgettable ODI innings of all time was the day De Villiers smashed the fastest fifty (16 balls) and hundred (31 balls) in an innings of sublime entertainment. De Villiers has now scored three big ODI hundreds against the West Indies (the other one coming at the 2015 World Cup). The Wanderers match was the first in history that three batsmen from the same team – the other two being Hashim Amla (153) and Rilee Rossouw (128) – scored hundreds in the same innings. South Africa batted first and reached 439-2, the first of four 400-plus totals in ODIs in 2015. West Indies (291-7) didn’t come close and South Africa won by 148 runs.

It was De Villiers’ third hundred of the series and the fourth time South Africa scored 400-plus (438-4) in 2015. The fact that it happened in the series decider, which South Africa won by 214 runs to take the series 3-2, made it that much more special. De Villiers hit three fours and 11 sixes at a strike-rate of 195.08 to take the game away from India before they had even picked up a bat. It was an impressive series win for the Proteas after losing in Bangladesh and confirmed De Villiers’ standing as the most destructive and innovative batsman in the game. He was later crowned the ICC’s ODI Player of the Year for the second year in a row.
