AB de Villiers says South Africa didn’t play well enough in the ’50-50′ moments during the second ODI against England in Port Elizabeth.

England went 2-0 up in the series after beating the Proteas by five wickets on Saturday. Alex Hales scored 99 and Jos Buttler an unbeaten 48 from 28 balls as England chased down 262 with 22 balls to spare.

South Africa fell short of a good total, only reaching 262-7,and De Villiers felt it was about 20 runs off a par score.

‘I thought 280 was par,’ he said. ‘300 would have been nice. I think we’ve got the potential in our batting line-up to get scores like that on a wicket like this where the par score is probably around 260/270; 280 I would have been happy with and 300 would have been exceptional.’

South Africa’s lost three key wickets between the 41st and 44th overs, including that of De Villiers, which halted their momentum and ultimately prevented them from getting closer to 300.

‘Unfortunately I got out at a bad time and a couple of dismissals later we were in trouble,’ De Villiers said.

‘So we actually did well to get to 260 in the end of the day. They [England] are a good side and playing some good cricket at the moment. They look confident but they are not unbeatable, there’s no doubt about it.

‘We’ve had a couple of opportunities in both games; it sounds like I’m singing the same song here and in the Test matches, but it’s true. It’s just a matter of really getting it right and taking our opportunities.’
