A fifty from Jacques Kallis was not enough to bring his Libra Legends their first win in the Master Champions.
He and Michael Lumb put on 89 in 10 overs, but no one else made any impression as Jeetan Patel (3-29) and Rory Kleinveld (2-20) cut through the batting.
Ashwell Prince contributed 14 of nine balls to the Capricorn Commanders chase, but the winning runs came from Andrew Symonds (62 not out) and Paul Colllingwood (62 not out), condemning the Legends to their fourth loss in four games.
Jacques Rudolph (27 off 19) was the junior partner in a Gemini Arabians triumvirate which ran 223-2 in the 19th over against the Sagittarius Strikers. Virenda Sehwag (134 off 63, 10 fours, 11 sixes) and Kumar Sangakkara (51 off 35) did the real damage. Justin Kemp added one as five wickets fell for one run in the last over, four of which were claimed by Krishmar Santokie, which gave him the rather inflated figures of 5-30.
The Arabians fell 12 runs short with Kemp taking 1-32 off two overs and Paul Harris 1-40 off four.
Also in earlier matches, Graeme Smith, after a fine fifty, was brought back down to earth when he was stumped off Johan Botha‘s spin for 13. But Neil McKenzie made a useful 30 off 34, which with Azar Mahmood’s 48 was enough to give the Virgo Super Kings a four-wicket win over the Leo Lions. Botha contributed 27, and Robin Peterson four to the Lion’s offering of 146.
Smith struggled again against Rudolph’s Arabians on Saturday, scoring just four in a total of 122-6. Neil McKenzie was top-scorer with 46 off 42, but the Super Kings fell 22 runs short.
