Former Proteas and Highveld Lions batsman Gulam Bodi is the ‘intermediary’ being investigated by the CSA on charges of fixing Ram Slam matches.

After hours of speculation and silence, CSA admitted that ‘we have reached a point where we can confirm that Mr Bodi is the intermediary who was charged by CSA in early-December 2015 under the CSA Anti-Corruption Code’.

A statement by CEO Haroon Lorgat added: ‘Mr Bodi is presently co-operating with the CSA Anti-Corruption officials. We now await his response to the charges and the matter will take its course in accordance with the process outlined in the Code.’

After a month of silence, the story was given fresh impetus when noted cricket commentator Neil Manthorp revealed in his Business Day column that the ‘perpetrator’ was in fact an ex-Proteas player. Bodi played two ODIs and a T20 for the Proteas in 2007.

Manthorp also mentioned that several other players were also being investigated, although some faced charges that they had failed to expose what they knew.

It was the news site Netwerk24 who first named the 37-year-old as a leading figure in fixing Ram Slam matches last year.

When approached by Netwerk24 for comment, Bodi said: ‘No, absolutely no comment. Sorry.’
