• Why Klaasen doesn’t have CSA contract

Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen remains hesitant to sign a national contract with CSA.

According to Rapport, Klaasen wants the freedom to play in the world’s four biggest T20 leagues – the IPL, the SA20, The Hundred (in England) and MLC (in the USA).

The Proteas are set to play a lot of white-ball cricket this season, with several series either clashing with those T20 leagues or starting shortly after them.

“Discussions regarding Heinrich Klaasen’s future are ongoing, and a final decision will be made shortly,” CSA said when announcing the list of contracted players for 2025-26.

Klaasen’s upcoming T20 schedule includes playing for the Seattle Orcas in MLC (13 June to 14 July), the Manchester Originals in The Hundred (5-31 August) Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20 (26 December to 26 January) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL (15 March to 31 May).

Klaasen currently earns R48-million per IPL campaign and was bought for R4.5-million at the SA20 auction in 2023.

Players can earn a maximum of R4.5-million per season from a CSA national contract, although things like commercial rights income can increase it to R8-million.

Rapport understands that Klaasen will make a final decision within the next two weeks.
