• Paarl Royals replace Root with BBL star

    Australian batsman Mitchell Owen will replace England’s Joe Root in the Paarl Royals squad.

    Root, who has scored 279 runs in eight matches for the Royals at an average of 55.80 and a strike rate of 140.20, will be unavailable for the rest of the SA20 tournament due to his England commitments.

    Owen has been in impressive form, blasting 108 off 42 balls in the Big Bash League final on Monday to help the Hobart Hurricanes clinch their maiden title.

    The Royals are currently top of the SA20 log and will meet MI Cape Town in the first playoff qualifier at St George’s Park next Tuesday.
