The Pretoria Capitals have appointed Jonathan Trott as their new head coach ahead of the 2025 SA20 season.
Trott succeeds Graham Ford, who was in charge of the Capitals for the first two SA20 seasons. They reached the final in 2023 after topping the log but failed to make the playoffs in 2024.
The 43-year-old Trott recently oversaw Afghanistan’s best performance at a T20 World Cup where they advanced to the semi-finals for the first time.
Trott will be returning to his country of birth, where he attended Rondebosch Boys’ High in Cape Town and represented South Africa at U15 and U19 levels.
He then played senior provincial cricket for Western Province and Boland before opting to further his career in England with Warwickshire.
It ultimately led to a hugely successful international playing career with England, which included 52 Tests, 68 ODIs and seven T20Is.
We’re just as pumped as you are, Trotty! 🤩
Pitori, let’s give a big shoutout to our new Head Coach and welcome him to the Pretoria Capitals family! 🙌#RoarSaamMore pic.twitter.com/nW6sK3hVKG
