• Saffas Abroad: Abbott, Ferreira fire in England

    Kyle Abbott and Donovan Ferreira were the standout South African performers in England’s County Championship and T20 Blast this past week.

    County Championship Division One

    Former Proteas paceman Kyle Abbott was superb with the ball, taking 5-89 in Hampshire’s six-wicket victory over Kent.

    Durban-born Ben Compton scored 92 off 210 deliveries (13 fours) for Kent in the same match.

    Joburg-born Keaton Jennings hit a massive 187* off 259 balls (27 fours, four sixes) in Lancashire’s first innings against Nottinghamshire, with the match ending in a draw.

    North West Dragons pace bowler Migael Pretorious took 5-104 in the first innings for Somerset against Warwickshire, helping them claim a five-wicket victory.

    Former Proteas captain Dean Elgar scored 60 off 95 balls (six fours) in Essex’s second innings against Surrey, who won by 145 runs.

    County Championship Division Twoย 

    Leus du Plooy, who was born in Pretoria and scored nine first-class centuries in South Africa, made 60 off 133 balls (five fours) in Middlesex’s 123-run defeat to Leicestershire.

    T20 Blastย 

    Donovan Ferreira smashed 66 off 32 deliveries (three fours, seven sixes) in Yorkshire’s four-run defeat to the Birmingham Bears.

    The Pretoria-born all-rounder also hit 44 off 32 balls (three fours one six) in Yorkshire’s seven-wicket defeat to Derbyshire.

    Colin Ackermann continued his fine form, scoring 70 off 52 deliveries (four fours, four sixes) in Durham’s five-wicket loss to Northamptonshire.
