The Northerns Titans have bolstered their squad for the 2024-25 season with the signing of three internationals.
They are all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo (formerly KZN Dolphins), pace bowler Sisanda Magala (Central Gauteng Lions) and veteran spinner Roelof van der Merwe, who last played for the Titans 15 years ago during which time he was selected for the Proteas. The 39-year-old has represented the Netherlands since 2015.
“We are glad Roela is back,” Titans CEO Jacques Faul told Rapport newspaper. “He can win you games. And we need a bit of that bulldog spirit. We saw it with David Wiese in the T20 Challenge, you need the old hands.
“Roela already lives here, just 15 minutes from the field, and his children go to school here locally. He will play for us as an overseas player.
“Andile is a great white-ball player and we are happy about Sisanda,” Faul added. “He is an intelligent white-ball cricketer with a good streak and slow deliveries. We feel he is not always valued.”
Phehlukwayo told Rapport: “I’ve played cricket all my life in Durban, so it’s all about a new challenge and a change of environment.”
Meanwhile, Proteas spinner Senuran Muthusamy has confirmed that he will join the EP Warriors from the North West Dragons.
