Proteas batsman Matthew Breetzke will join the Northamptonshire Steelbacks for England’s T20 Blast tournament.
The 25-year-old earned three T20I caps last year and head coach John Sadler believes that the experience he gained at that level will be a big boost to the Steelbacks.
“Matt is a very capable batter who will bring power, experience and some real determination to the side.
“We identified what we wanted to achieve with our signings this year and he perfectly fits the profile of the type of player that we wanted to bring in as our second overseas.”
Breetzke has enjoyed some excellent domestic seasons in South Africa, finishing as top run-scorer with 467 in the recent T20 Challenge.
“He has been excellent over the last couple of seasons domestically and we’ve been really impressed so we can’t wait to see what he can do this year,” said Sadler.
The Steelbacks will start their T20 campaign on 30 May against the Derbyshire Falcons at Wantage Road.
