Bowling coach Rory Kleinveldt says Western Province will go into the 4-Day Domestic Series final against the Central Gauteng Lions full of confidence.
WP won their last two matches of the league stage, including an innings and 259-run victory against the KZN Dolphins at Newlands last week, to finish second on the standings.
They will now face the table-topping Lions in a five-day final, which starts on Wednesday (10am, SuperSport channel 207).
“We’re in a really good place,” said Kleinveldt. “This final is coming at a good time for us. Guys are confident coming off two wins to get us into this stage of the competition.
“Hopefully we can carry that momentum through into the final and get us through the next five days.”
WP are set to play their second final of the season having won the One-Day Cup.
“It’s been an amazing season to be a part of,” said Kleinveldt. “We’ve played really good cricket throughout the summer.
“I think the most notable thing for me is that we have an identity as a team in terms of how we want to play and how we want to go about our business. And everyone’s committed to that 100%.
“At no stage have we ever doubted our processes or our philosophy in terms of how we want to play. Yes, we’ve had some sticky moments in the season, but ultimately I think there’s so much more clarity in how guys are preparing for games because everyone knows exactly what’s expected of them. And I feel like that’s where we’re winning half of the battle at the moment in our preparation”.
Kleinveldt says conditions at the Wanderers will play a huge role in the final.
“Assessing them and understanding what’s needed on that particular surface is going to go a long way into us doing well in the final.
“I feel like we’ve got enough experience in the changing room to be able to give us a quick assessment of what conditions are like and how we need to go about conquering those conditions.”
