• India one down at lunch

Dane Piedt provided the only breakthrough for South Africa in a low-scoring first session on day one of the fourth Test against India in New Delhi.

The off-spinner was one of three changes made to the side after South Africa lost the series in Nagpur. He replaced Simon Harmer, while Kyle Abbott came in for the injured Dale Steyn and Temba Bavuma for opening bat Stiaan van Zyl.

India were 60-1 at lunch, having won the toss on a pitch looking in better shape than the one witnessed in Nagpur and Mohali.

Scoring wasn’t easy as India only managed about two runs an over. South Africa thought they had a breakthrough with India on 15-0 when Abbott had Murali Vijay caught at second slip by AB de Villiers for 10.

However, the delivery was deemed a no ball after a review of Abbott’s front foot convinced the third umpire that he had nothing behind the line. It was a marginal call, but looked like the correct one on the TV replays.

India soldiered on and Piedt, playing in only his second Test, got the breakthrough when Vijay drove at a delivery that kept straight, edging the ball to Hashim Amla at first slip for 12.
