Dean Elgar and Donovan Ferreira’s mammoth partnership carried the Northerns Titans to a six-wicket win against the KZN Dolphins at Kingsmead on Wednesday.
Needing 271 to win, the Titans slumped to 41-4 in the 12th over.
Dolphins captain Eathan Bosch (3-56) caused the early destruction, dismissing Dewald Brevis (nought), Rivaldo Moonsamy (two) and Neil Brand (22). Ottniel Baartman then bowled Sibonelo Makhanya for a duck.
But Elgar (100* off 106 balls) and Ferreira (138* off 106) then put on an unbeaten 232-run fifth-wicket stand to secure victory for the visitors.
Earlier, the Dolphins had posted 270-8 after notable contributions from Jason Smith (75), Andile Simelane (41) and Tshepang Dithole (36).
The Titans bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals, with Ferreira (3-53) and Junior Dala (2-47) the most successful.
In Paarl, the Boland Rocks beat the KZN Inland Tuskers by 82 runs.
After being asked to bat, Janneman Malan (68 off 83 balls) and Clyde Fortuin (68 off 56) put on 130 for the hosts’ first wicket.
Keegan Petersen (44 off 50), Christiaan Jonker (45* off 40) and Ferisco Adams (32 off 30) maintained the Rocks’ momentum as they ended on 305-6.
Malcom Nofal and captain Michael Erlank each took two wickets for the Tuskers.
In reply, the visitors were bowled out for 223 in 46.5 overs, with Tian Koekemoer (84) and Alindile Mhletywa (50) scoring half-centuries.
Hardus Viljoen was the pick of the Rocks’ bowlers, taking 4-25.
In Division 2, the Free State Knights secured a 30-run win against the Limpopo Impalas in Polokwane, and the Mpumalanga Rhinos beat the Eastern Cape Iinyathi by four wickets in White River.
