Chloe Tryon and Nadine de Klerk guided the Proteas to a four-wicket win against New Zealand in the first women’s ODI on Sunday.
Needing 235 to win in Potchefstroom, the hosts slumped to 111-5 before Tryon (71 off 58 balls) and De Klerk (58* off 77) turned things around with a 124-run partnership.
De Klerk hit the winning runs with 17 balls remaining.
Earlier, Masabata Klaas (3-60) and De Klerk (2-34) helped restrict New Zealand to 235-8.
Brooke Halliday top-scored for the Black Ferns with 76 off 92 balls, while Hannah Rowe made 52 off 72.
The second ODI will take place at the Pietermaritzburg Oval on Thursday.
