Dewald Brevis says he’s ready to play for the Proteas after being included in the T20I and ODI squads for the home series against Australia.
The 20-year-old could make his senior international debut in the first of three T20Is at Kingsmead in Durban on 30 August.
“It’s the biggest thing that has happened in my cricket so far. It’s a tremendous privilege for me to be selected for the Proteas,” Brevis told Netwerk24.
“Since childhood I have always had the dream of playing for the Proteas. I have always worked for it and now to get that opportunity … I am so grateful for it. I can only say thank you to the Lord every day for that.”
The big-hitting batsman said he “couldn’t be happier” to be making his debut against a top team like Australia – “I always look forward to and love tough situations and competition, so I can’t wait for the fight” – and while many believe the former SA U19 star should have already played for the Proteas, he was happy to bide his time.
“I always tell everyone God’s timing is perfect. I believe that now is the perfect time and I’m ready for it.”
