Heinrich Klaasen and David Wiese‘s blistering half-centuries were the pick of the South African performances in the early rounds of The Hundred in England.
Leus du Plooy top-scored for the Southern Brave with 29 off 19 deliveries (two fours) in their six-run defeat against the Trent Rockets in the opening game.
In the fifth match, Du Plooy chipped in with 18 off 15 balls (two fours) for the Brave in their two-wicket victory over the Welsh Fire, whose Stephen Eskinazi scored 31 off 18 (three fours, one six).
Du Plooy was on hand again three matches later, scoring 28 off 24 deliveries (four fours) for the Brave in a 60-run loss to the Northern Superchargers.
After a disappointing outing in the Oval Invincibles’ opening game, Klaasen scored 18 off 16 deliveries (one six) during his side’s thrilling tie with the Welsh Fire.
Wiese and Wayne Parnell delivered the first significant South African contributions during the 12th match, played between the Superchargers and Trent Rockets.
In a display of pure power, Wiese clubbed 54* off 25 deliveries (three fours, four sixes) for the Superchargers, before Parnell cleaned house with figures of 3-21 to lead their side to a narrow three-run win.
