Brendon McCullum was involved in an incident similar to Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal at Lord’s when playing for New Zealand against Sri Lanka in 2006.
On Sunday, the England Test coach said he would not be “having a beer” with the Australian team after Bairstow was controversially stumped by wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
In Christchurch in 2006, McCullum, the New Zealand wicketkeeper, controversially ran out Muttiah Muralitharan after the Sri Lankan had stepped out of his crease to celebrate teammate Kumar Sangakkara’s hundred.
McCullum apologised for the incident during his MCC Spirit of Cricket lecture, delivered at Lord’s in 2016.
