His three-year contract will start on 1 July.
Domingo began his national coaching career with the SA U19 team in 2004. In 2005, he became head coach of the Warriors, leading the franchise to victory in the domestic one-day and T20 competitions during the 2009-10 season.
In December 2012, Domingo was appointed Proteas’ T20I coach and in May 2013, he became Proteas head coach in all formats, a position he held until August 2017.
In 2019, Domingo moved on to coach Bangladesh for three seasons, and recently worked with the Netherlands.
“I am truly honoured to be part of the hugely professional and successful setup of Lions Cricket,” he said in a statement. “I absolutely cannot wait to get started, meet the players, Pride members, and entrench myself amongst this passionate family.
“I am thrilled to be back in the South African cricketing landscape and know that I’ll feel at home.”
