Dewald Brevis starred in South Africa A’s four-wicket win against Sri Lanka A in the first 50-over match in Pallekele on Sunday.
The 20-year-old, batting at No 7, hit 98* off 71 balls (six fours, seven sixes) as the visitors reached their target of 265 in the 42nd over. He was well supported by Beyers Swanepoel, who scored 43* off 28 deliveries.
Swanepoel had joined Brevis at the crease with the team in trouble at 155-6, after captain Tony de Zorzi (35 off 43 balls) and Keegan Petersen (42 off 39) had made a solid start to the run chase.
Earlier, Sri Lanka A posted 264-8 thanks to 68 by opener Nishan Madushka and No 7 Janith Liyanage’s 76.
Lutho Sipamla took 3-33 in eight overs.
The second match of the one-day series will take place on Tuesday.
