CSA plans to ask the government for financial assistance to upgrade cricket stadiums ahead of the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.
CSA, which will next week begin a comprehensive audit of all host stadiums, will also approach the private sector for help.
“We have already held preliminary discussions with the deputy director general of the ministry of sports, art and culture, Sumayya Khan,” CSA head of public relations Refentse Shinners told Rapport newspaper.
“Our host stadiums are old. The ICC’s minimum standards for stadiums have become stricter since the previous tournament in South Africa in 2003.
“We are approaching the talks with confidence because the return on the government’s investment in upgrading the stadiums is significant. There will be a lot of economic benefits for the country unlocked by the successful presentation of the tournament in 2027.
“As part of our presentation, we will also conduct an analysis of what positive economic impact the SA20 and recent international tournaments, including the Women’s T20 World Cup, have had on the country.”
