The Titans sealed their first victory of the 2015 Ram Slam T20 Challenge, as they defeated the Highveld Lions by four wickets at Senwes Park on Friday evening.
After the agony of losing their opener against the Dolphins by six runs, the Titans were looking to bounce back against a Lions side chasing their second victory of the campaign.
The Lions, who were put in to bat first, were in constant trouble, as just two batsmen reached double figures. Rassie van der Dussen stuck around for a 31-ball 27, while skipper Thami Tsolekile rolled back the years with a career-best 58, but it proved too difficult for the rest – bowled out for 115 – thanks to an excellent bowling display.
The Titans bowling lineup is certainly one to look out for in this tournament, with Chris Morris and the promising 19-year-old Lungi Ngidi picking up two wickets, while Tabraiz Shamsi improves with every game, picking up Man of the Match figures of 3-20.
The Titans run chase was nervy at times, but all it needed was a couple of half-decent partnerships. Quinton de Kock top scored with 36, and despite struggling on 84-6 at one point thanks to Aaron Phangiso’s impressive return of 3-19, Morris and Graeme van Buuren saw off the final 33 runs required to seal the victory.
