Proteas all-rounder Marizanne Kapp was bought for R3.26-million by the Delhi Capitals at Monday’s Women’s Premier League auction.
The UP (Uttar Pradesh) Warriorz paid R2.17-million for Proteas pace bowler Shabnim Ismail.
Kapp’s wife, Dané van Niekerk, who was left out of the Proteas’ T20 World Cup squad after failing a 2km fitness test by 18 seconds, will play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and earn R649,000.
The Mumbai Indians paid the same amount for all-rounder Chloé Tryon.
Laura Wolvaardt, Suné Luus, Nadine de Klerk and Nonkululeko Mlaba all went unsold.
A total of 449 players were up for auction on Monday, with 87 securing spots in the teams. The five franchises could pick a maximum of 18 players each.
A total salary cap of $1.45-million applies to each team in the tournament, which will be held in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from 4-26 March.
