Dean Elgar picked up career-best figures of 4-22 to help bowl India out for 201 midway through the final session on day one of the first Test in Mohali .
Simon Harmer picked up one in the session after lunch and Imran Tahir took the final two wickets in one over to wrap up the tail.
India failed to build any meaningful partnerships, apart from the one between Pujara and Vijay for 63. The wickets at regular intervals prevented them from building any momentum.
Elgar found himself on a hat-trick at one stage, having removed Ajinkya Rahane (15) and Saha (0) by having both caught at first slip by Hashim Amla.
Elgar’s success has already questioned the need for two specialist spinners in the XI, so the pressure was on Harmer and Imran Tahir to make an impact.
India should have been eight wickets down shortly before tea after Kagiso Rabada, making his debut, had R Ashwin plumb lbw, but he overstepped and the delivery was ruled a no-ball.
