The Garden Route Badgers beat the KZN Inland Tuskers by 11 runs in the Division 2 One-Day Cup final at the Pietermaritzburg Oval on Wednesday.
The Badgers (formerly SWD) posted 253-7 in their 50 overs after being put into bat.
Openers Matthew Christensen (46) and Blayde Capell (38) put on 80 before Capell was caught by Malcom Nofal off Michael Erlank’s bowling. Christensen was trapped lbw by Nofal a few deliveries later.
Jhedli van Briesies (43) and Onke Nyaku (26) added 54 for the third wicket, before Pheko Moletsane (38) and Sean Whitehead (25) made useful contributions.
Nofal finished with figures of 3-48 in 10 overs, and Stefan Tait 2-48.
In reply, the Tuskers slumped to 16-2 after Basheeru-Deen Walters bowled both Thamsanqa Khumalo (nought) and Andile Mogakane (four).
Yaseen Valli (59) and Michael Erlank (38) added 88 for the third wicket, and Tian Koekemoer then scored 50, but it wouldn’t be enough for the Tuskers.
Walters also bowled Koekemoer and tail-ender Keith Dudgeon (23) to end with 4-46 in 10 overs.
