The Joburg Super Kings have signed spinner Aaron Phangiso as their wild-card pick for the upcoming SA20 campaign.
Phangiso represented the Titans in the recent T20 Challenge where he was very effective. He finished the tournament as the fifth-highest wicket-taker with 12 scalps at an average of 16.67, a strike rate of 16.83 and an excellent economy rate of 5.94 runs per over.
The off-spinner has played 16 T20Is for the Proteas with mixed success, picking up 20 wickets at an average of 22.15 and an economy rate of 7.77.
While the 38-year-old was overlooked in the main SA20 auction, Phangiso is a quality pickup for the Super Kings and in top T20 shape thanks to the T20 Challenge.
On Monday, SA20 announced that each of the eight teams would be allowed to sign one wild-card player (either South African or overseas).
The biggest pickup of the wild cards so far is MI Cape Town’s signing of Jofra Archer.
How’s that for a wild card twist? Welcome on board, Aaron! ?#WhistleForJoburg @faf1307 pic.twitter.com/w18eJC7OTF
