Clyde Fortuin hit the fastest fifty in this year’s T20 Challenge as the Boland Rocks beat the North West Dragons by five wickets in Potchefstroom on Saturday.
Fortuin’s milestone came in just 23 balls and he went on to make 57 from 29 before being bowled by Renaldo Meyer’s slower ball.
With Janneman Malan scoring 34 off 28 balls at the top of the order, the Rocks comfortably reached their rain-reduced target of 131 with 11 balls to spare.
Earlier, the Dragons posted 150-5 in their 20 overs, thanks mainly to Lesego Senokwane’s 46 off 43 balls and 58 off 44 from captain Heino Kuhn.
Hardus Viljoen bowled superbly during the powerplay and at the death of the innings to finish with figures of 4-0-13-1, while Bamanye Xenxe took 2-32.
The win took the Rocks to second place on the log, one point ahead of the Dolphins, who play WP in the second match of the day.
The Dragons remain last on the log.
