The ICC has reportedly given the go-ahead for Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar’s proposed Twenty20 all-stars league to be played later this year.

The ICC provided clearance for the league, a one-off event in November which will see a host of former stars play a series of matches in the United States, after talks with Warne and Tendulkar, the Times of India reported.

Warne hinted on social media earlier this week that he would soon release further details of the league, tweeting ‘Hopefully will have some exciting cricket news for you this week’.

The ICC clearance paves the way for Tendulkar and Warne to sign a long list of legends for the series, including Glenn McGrath, Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, Sourav Ganguly, Brian Lara, VVS Laxman and Wasim Akram.

The games are set to be played in November on drop-in pitches at three baseball stadiums – Wrigley Field (Chicago), Yankee Stadium (New York) and Dodger Stadium (Los Angeles).

A portion of the earnings from the three T20 matches will go to the ICC to help grow the game in the country.

‘Myself and Sachin had an idea – why not take cricket to America and be the Harlem Globetrotters, go around and do free exhibitions at schools … help grow the game of cricket [in a country where there are already] 45 teams in LA,’ Warne told News Ltd in June.

‘We’ve signed around 28 players who have all said, “If you and Sachin are doing it, we’d like to do it as well”. We’ve got all the players you’d want to see from the past 20 years.’ – cricket.com.au
