The North West Dragons beat the Central Gauteng Lions by 11 runs in their T20 Challenge match at St George’s Park on Tuesday.
The Dragons were in trouble at 79-6 in the 15th over but were able to post 136-6 thanks to an excellent partnership between Nono Pongolo (27* off 21 balls) and Duan Jansen (32* off 18).
That proved to be enough as the Lions could only manage 125-5 despite Mitchell van Buuren finishing unbeaten on 65 off 56 balls.
Dragons captain Nicky van den Bergh’s brave decision to bowl spinners Caleb Seleka for the 18th over and Johannes Diseko for the final over paid off as Seleka dismissed Ruan Haasbroek and Diseko only conceded singles.
Diseko finished with figures of 2-17 and Seleka 2-23.
