Laura Wolvaardt scored 117 as the Proteas beat the West Indies by 96 runs in the third women’s ODI at the Wanderers on Thursday to level the series at 1-1.
The 22-year-old opener’s third ODI hundred helped the hosts post 299-8 in their 50 overs, with captain Sune Luus (56) and Chloe Tryon (43) also making important contributions.
Shamilia Connell was the West Indies’ most successful bowler, taking 4-54.
“I felt like I wasn’t getting great starts,” said Wolvaardt, who had not progressed past 25 in her previous three knocks.
“We focused on building a partnership that took up a lot of time and faced a lot of overs. It’s very nice to see what we can do if we actually do what we are supposed to and get it right.”
In response, the West Indies were bowled out for 203 in 44.4 overs.
Proteas pace bowler Shabnim Ismail finished with figures of 4-37.
The first ODI was rained out when the West Indies looked set to win, while the second was tied, with the visitors winning the Super Over.
The fourth ODI is on Sunday.
