Proteas spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has highlighted the team’s impressive tally of T20I wins in 2021 as a reason to get behind them.
The Proteas won four of their five matches at this year’s T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman, but missed out on the semi-finals due to net run rate.
South Africa finished their 2021 campaign with 15 wins – the fourth most by a team in a calendar year – and eight defeats from 23 T20I matches.
“15 wins.. by a team in transition with ‘no superstars’ 4th MOST EVER BY ANY TEAM!” Shamsi tweeted on Tuesday.
“Yet some people always speak negatively instead of encouraging the team and appreciate the work of people trying to build this team behind the scenes.”
Pakistan, who lost to eventual champions Australia in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, having gone through the group stage unbeaten, won a record 18 matches in 2021, with six defeats and three no-results.
