Jason Niemand struck an unbeaten triple century as the Eastern Cape Iinyathi thrashed the Mpumalanga Rhinos by 484 runs in their 4-Day Series match in East London this past Sunday.
The 22-year-old – who made a first-innings duck – struck an unbeaten 321 in 401 balls (38 fours and five sixes) in the Iinyathi’s second innings as they declared on 637-9.
The Rhinos were then bowled out for 185.
Unfortunately for Niemand, the match did not have first-class status. Stephen Cook (390 in 2009-10) holds the record for the highest first-class score by a South African followed by Darryl Cullinan (337* in 1993-94).
Niemand played for the SA U19 team at the World Cup in 2018.
