Former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis sent out a timely reminder off his quality as a T20 batsman as he smashed a scintillating 120 for the St Lucia Kings.
Du Plessis, who captains the Kings, has only recently returned to play after a persistent concussion kept him away from the game. His 120 off of only 60 balls was the perfect way to return to form after the injury.
Vic-Captain Andre Fletcher was full of praise for Du Plessis particularly given his struggles with form since his return from injury.
“It was a brilliant innings from Faf, knowing that he started bad in the tournament. He was under pressure and he wasn’t feeling well – we couldn’t ask for better.”
Faf’s 120 in 60 balls also ranks as a career best performance for him. Although he has not been included in the Proteas setup for some time, it is the type of batting performance that may just do enough to catch the eyes of the selectors.
The Kings will face the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots later on Sunday in their next match where Du Plessis will seek to back up his recent ton with another powerful performance.
