South African fast bowler Marchant de Lange made history as Trent Rockets beat the Southern Brave by nine wickets and 18 balls to spare in The Hundred. He became the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in the new competition.
The win was set up after a fiery spell from de Lange that restricted the Southern Brave to just 126/8 in the first innings. He bowled his full set of deliveries and finished with 5-20 from his 20 balls. With the 98th ball of the Brave innings and his 18th, De Lange sent the stumps cartwheeling to capture the first five-wicket haul of The Hundred.
Chasing 127 to win, Dawid Malan (62 off 43 balls) and D’Arcy Short (51 off 41 balls) both hit fifties to ensure a win for the Trent Rockets. It was de Lange who picked up the Hero of the Match award.
