Minister of Sport Nathi Mthethwa has called for an urgent meeting with the Cricket South Africa interim board and members’ council to take place on Tuesday afternoon.

This comes after the minister was reportedly furious with the members’ council decision not to adopt the new, proposed recommendations of a majority independent board as per the 2012 Nicholson report.

The interim board and members’ council have been locked in discussions about the minister’s mandate to restructure the cricketing organisation after a turbulent time.

The board also expressed its utter disappointment at the council’s vote against the proposal of establishing a permanent board comprising seven non-independent and four independent directors, led by a completely independent chairperson.

However, this past Sunday evening, CSA released a statement saying the minister has called for a joint sitting with the two parties in the hope of convincing the members’ council to adopt the implementation of the report.

‘We hope that common sense will prevail to avoid another crisis in South African cricket,’ said CSA interim board chair Stavros Nicolaou.
