• T20 Challenge: Five standout players so far

    Having reached the halfway stage of the CSA T20 Challenge in Durban, ANDRE HUISAMEN looks at five players who have been impressive so far.

    Sisanda Magala

    Magala has been superb with the ball and despite failing to pick up a wicket in Wednesday’s defeat by the Dolphins, he still boasts the most wickets in the competition so far (10). The fast bowler has kept his deliveries tight and used his slower-ball variation to good effect, especially at the death. Magala has proven again why is so highly rated and even got a nod of approval from Proteas great Dale Steyn on Twitter for his performance this past weekend.

    Keshav Maharaj

    Maharaj is certainly proving his credentials as captain and could slowly be stating his case to lead the Proteas one day. He has led the Dolphins with flying colours so far – the KZN team sits comfortably at the top of the log, yet to lose a match. His bowling, however, has also played a significant role in the Dolphins’ quest, doing a lot of damage by opening. With seven scalps already, Maharaj currently sits third for most wickets in the competition.

    Robbie Frylinck

    Frylinck has once again displayed his enormous talent in the shorter format of the game. He has been impressive with both bat and ball, proving a real game changer for the Dolphins at critical stages. His bowling, though, has probably been the most influential. He has delivered tidy spells in pressure situations and also used good variations, making him difficult to face.

    Rassie van der Dussen

    The right-hander averages close to 70 in his four batting innings thus far, posing a deadly strike rate of 143.29. Van der Dussen has played a key role in the Lions top order to get to decent scores, batting with class and precision. He currently has the second-most runs in the competition with one half-century already to his name.

    George Linde

    Linde is becoming more and more of an all-round threat for opposition teams, which bodes well for the Proteas. His striking ability in the T20 format continues to provide the Cobras with some sort of hope, although results have been hard to come by for the men from Cape Town. Linde also provided a game-changing knock against the Warriors on Tuesday, where he accelerated towards the end of the innings. He continues to show the heaps of potential he has to offer.
