Proteas fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is the latest South African sports star to join Jay-Z’s famous Roc Nation sports agency.
Ngidi becomes the first-ever cricketer to sign for the world-renowned company and joins Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and wing Cheslin Kolbe as the third local sportsman to join the Roc Nation family.
The 24-year-old paceman, named Proteas ODI Player of the Year for 2020, was unveiled by Roc Nation on Tuesday afternoon with Ngidi saying he is excited to be represented by such a renowned global agency.
‘I’ve been inspired by everything Roc Nation has done since growing the family in South Africa. I love the vision‚ the culture and everything they stand for. It resonates with me as a person and who I am as a human being,’ explained Ngidi.
‘It is really important to have a dedicated team that helps to reassure me and ensure that every time I go out and play‚ I can perform to the best of my ability and help me grow my career for South Africa a lot further.’
Roc Nation also represents famous footballers from the English Premier League such as Marcus Rashford, Kevin de Bruyne and Wilfried Zaha.
In a statement, the company said Ngidi is the perfect candidate for its brand and expressed delight at having another South African on board.
‘Lungi is a wonderful, talented young man. He has the ability and the drive to be the best fast bowler in the world,’ said Roc Nation sports international president Michael Yormark.
‘We are thrilled to be on this journey with him, to achieve all his goals and objectives on and off the field. His compassion, and his dedication to philanthropic work, align perfectly with our company values and spirit.
‘The people of South Africa have welcomed us in with open arms and, as a company, we will continue to support the country in whatever way we can.’
