Cricket Australia has announced five uncapped players in an extended Test squad for the much-anticipated series against India next month.
Will Pucovski, Cameron Green, Mitchell Swepson, Michael Nesser and Sean Abbott are the new faces in the set-up, who have not yet worn Baggy Greens.
These five players are added members to the Australian Test squad of 12 that beat Pakistan and New Zealand last summer, and they will be hoping to add much value to their quest of beating India.
‘Their undeniable form demanded selection and we are very pleased to have these young men in the squad for what will be a tremendous Test Series against an extremely formidable opponent,’ said national selector Trevor Hohns.
WATCH: Paine makes incredible run-out
Tim Paine will once again captain the team with star batsmen David Warner and Steve Smith some of the other important figures in the team alongside bowlers Mitchell Starc and vice-captain Pat Cummins.
Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh are two of the more experienced players who failed to make the cut for the squads, which could potentially mean bad news for their prospective Test careers given their age.
Marsh, 37, has been in and out of the Australia Test side for a number of seasons now, while Khawaja’s lack of runs last season inevitably cost him his spot.
