Faf du Plessis continued his great run of form, scoring 87* in the Super Kings’ 10-wicket victory over the Kings XI Punjab.
Du Plessis came into this match with scores of 58*, 72, 43 and 22 and Sunday’s knock takes him to second on the tournament’s leading run-scorer’s list.
Chasing 179, Du Plessis delivered an innings of intent, invention and intelligence in equal measure. His runs came off just 53 deliveries and featured 11 fours and a six.
He shared an unbeaten opening-wicket partnership with Shane Watson (83* off 53 deliveries), which laid the foundation for a vital victory for the last-placed Kings.
KXIP’s batting innings was anchored by the tournament’s leading batsman KL Rahul. The Indian’s 63 came off 52 deliveries, sharing valuable partnerships with Mayank Agarwal (26), Mandeep Singh (27) and Nicholas Pooran, who’s 33 came off just 17 deliveries.
Ultimately the score was no match for a Du Plessis-led charge.
