• Petersen threatens CSA over match scandal

Former Proteas batsman Alviro Petersen has taken aim at Cricket South Africa’s recent statement on the integrity of the 2015 Ram Slam match-fixing scandal by threatening to present evidence to the public.

Petersen, who was implicated with irregularities masterminded by Gulam Bodi, took to Twitter early on Saturday morning, following CSA’s response to Thami Tsolekile’s comments about the process of the investigation.

In a first post, Petersen said: ‘NEW EVIDENCE CAME TO LIGHT THAT WILL SHOW THAT THE “INVESTIGATION” APPEAR TO BE “BIAS”.’

The 39-year-old then gave the organisation until 10am Saturday morning to correspond with him, otherwise he would present evidence to the public regarding the investigation process.

Two hours later, Petersen wrote another Twitter post, where he explained that ‘HEAVY, HEAVYWEIGHTS from various sections of society,’ as well as CSA had indeed made contact with him, saying he hopes action will now be taken or else he will speak out again.

The CSA response on Friday indicated that the correct legal procedure was followed by the governing body’s anti-corruption unit, which included assistance from Judge Ngoepe, external specialist lawyers, the ICC, BCCI, Hawks and an external digital forensic team.

Earlier this week Tsolekile, who copped a 12-year ban from all forms of cricket for his involvement in the incident, said in an interview with Robert Marawa that CSA overlooked the role white players Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Robbie Frylinck played.

CSA’s statement read that judge Ngoepe at the time praised Van Jaarsveld and other players’ courage and integrity for withstanding the pressures of match-fixing.
