• Kuhn stars for Kent

    Heino Kuhn hit the ground running with a century for Kent on the first day of their 2020 County Championship match against Essex on Saturday.

    After almost a three-month delay to the start of what is now known as the Bob Willis Trophy, counties from around the UK finally got their season under way on Saturday with a whole host of South Africans in action.

    Kuhn, though, stole the show after Kent found themselves in early trouble at 23-2 by sharing a 150-run stand for the fifth wicket with Ollie Robertson.

    The latter would depart for a well-played 78 before the former Titans batsman brought up the first 100 of the competition in what was also Kuhn’s first century for Kent since arriving in Canterbury in 2018 on a Kolpak deal.

    Kuhn would see out the rest of the first day of play by guiding Kent into a commanding position at 344-6 as he finished on 140 not out with 17 boundaries to his name already.

    Simon Harmer, who was on the other end in the Essex side, struggled to put the Kent batsmen under pressure and finished the first day with figures of 0-104.

    Elsewhere Lancashire captain Dane Villas missed out by falling ten runs short of a century in their clash with Leicestershire, while Marchant de Lange picked up two wickets for 37 as Glamorgan dismissed Somerset for 296 on the first day of their encounter in Taunton.
